Sea Hag Press Online Store

Obviously, I don't post updates to this blog often. And I don't know if I'll be doing it anytime soon, other than this. So I'm sorry about that, to anyone who still bothers to check this. Most of my newest work can be viewed (as well as purchased) at my online shop, Sea Hag Press. So go there. Thanks for reading, guys. If I ever get a legit website, I'll link you there as well. Cheers. Remember: Sea Hag Press.

May Day Race

I was asked to do this poster for the Birmingham Bicycle Coop's 3rd birthday race. Kind of a rush job, so some of those colors are awfully sloppy.

Sea Legs #2

4" x 6" black ink on paper, with red card stock and digital print matte. This is one of a set of two, which have both sold. I unfortunately do not have a scan of Sea Legs #1. I'll try to find a photo of it. In the meantime, use your imagination.

The Birds Poster

This one is the largest piece I've done in, I'd say, ten years. It's a 16" x 20" pen and black ink, and it has taken me quite some time to complete. The above scan, done on a shoddy ol' Oce B&W oversize scanner, is terribly rough and grimy, so I assure you, this piece looks much, much better in person.
I feel I should also clarify the date. There actually was a showing of "The Birds" at The Alabama Theatre last year, which I attended, but I was not commissioned by them to do this. I did it for personal reasons, and it made sense to me to put the date of the showing in with the film details. You'll notice that I didn't really start work on this until after they had screened it. So there you go.

Here's an old progress shot from a couple months back.

Pentafish

This was another fast, small one: 5" x 5" red & black ink.

Patti & Dave's STD

So I was asked to do the "Save the Date" postcards for my friends Patti and David's imminent wedding. I didn't have a chance to get the lines as crisp as I'd hoped, because I had to color this thing at work using a mouse instead of my computer at home, but when they're printed at 4" x 6", I doubt that'll matter much.

Halloween Poster 2010

New poster for Modern Gala's annual Halloween bash. This one gave me some trouble. After about 5 weeks of working on this, I lost my original PS file because my computer is a piece of garbage, so all I had to go off of was a hard-copy print that I did as a color proof. I had to scan it in and basically start over without my layers or clarity from the original file. It was bullshit. But alas, I think it looks pretty good, despite some dust and noise still visible from the scan. I'd originally planned to print these on 11" x 17" 100lb. ivory stock, but given the current griminess of this piece, I doubt I'll be doing that. Anyway, for more info on the party, which is sure to be outstanding, visit Modern Gala

A Preview of Horrors to Come

I've got a lot going on at the moment, and most of it's going towards a horror movie- themed art show at R.J. Saxon's in Dothan, AL. They do it big on the Halloween front every year. So this is something I did for them, and it's a bit of a sample of the things I'll be posting in the near future. Got a big new Halloween poster on the way, along with 3 or 4 pen and ink jobs, and they're all gruesome, so stay tuned.

Jabba (Revisited)

I've finally finished this. There were some delays, needless to say. It ended up being another one for the B.S.'s. Anyway, it's just an 11" x 17". I'm not sure how many colors. Double digits.

Wants to Get Funked Up

New one for Kevin "Wang" Scott's Monday Night Funk Shows. I had to do this one with a dastardly quickness, so a lot of the coloring is sloppy and the ladies look like hombres. But for being rushed, I'm still pretty pleased with it. I'm almost certain there'll be numerous changes to this one in the coming weeks, though, once they decide on printing options.
11" x 17" 5-color.

Col. Bruce Hampton tour poster.

11" x 17" eight color on cream.
Big thanks to Mr. Kevin Scott, the current touring bass player, for setting this up, and of course cheers to the lovely Robin Davis for posing.

Fiery Turkey

Another festive B.S. poster. I did this one, from start to finish, in two days. That's quite speedy for me, so I'm happy about it. 8 1/2" x 11" print.

You're a Witch, Girl (Gallons of BOOze)

Alright, so here's this year's Crime-spree/Modern Gala Halloween Party flyer. If you're anywhere near the Dothan, AL area on Oct. 31st, I suggest you stop by. Last year was a real graveyard smash, and this one's apt to be as well. 11" x 17" prints.

Here's the original inks.

Epigenetics Illustration

This is one of the three figures I've made for the Lubin Lab at UAB, and they're going in a new epigenetics textbook. It's basically DNA methylation, and how it affects gene expression. Exciting. Anyway, it took about a week to finish all three, with Robin directing.

Down Time, with Sharpies: Ep. 1

Started messing around with markers, just for fun. I did this caricature of the nigh-immortal Russian Hostile/Other on 8 1/2" x 11" 3-hole ruled notebook paper. Robin liked it, so here it is.

They Used To Be Birds

An ad for the B.S.'s, for their "Mall Show". It's supposed to be going in some kind of newspaper, so it was sort of a rush-job, in order to meet the deadline. Pressed for time, I decided to just put two of my favorite drawing subjects together: dinosaurs and cock-combs/wattles. 3" x 5".

Here's the original inks, with a red rectangle. 6" x 5.5"

Gorgon

I just did this gig poster for The Brightside Suicides, sort of a rush job. I'm happy to report that this piece probably has the best foot I've ever drawn. That hand of her's, however, looks like total crap.

The Forbidden Lollipop

I don't know what the Hell this is. I just wanted to draw some squirrels. Maybe I'll make something out of it soon.
